Michael Bloss, klimapolitischer Sprecher der Grünen, kommentiert die Plenarabstimmung des EU-Parlaments zum COP Mandat:
Wir rasen mit Vollgas auf eine Wand zu. Dieses Jahr wird wahrscheinlich das heißeste aller Zeiten. Wir erleben ein weiteres Jahr mit furchtbaren Fluten, Feuern und Dürreperioden von China, über Australien und Kanada, nach Europa.
Wir können es uns nicht leisten, dass diese Klimakonferenz wieder keine Ergebnisse liefert. Es muss einen klaren Beschluss geben, sich endgültig von Kohle, Öl und Gas zu verabschieden und verbindliche Ziele für Energieeffizienz und eine Verdreifachung der Erneuerbaren bis 2030 festzulegen.
In Dubai wird der Bock zum Gärtner gemacht. Die Tabakindustrie fragt man auch nicht nach den besten Methoden, sich das Rauchen abzugewöhnen.
Unternehmen, die ihr Geld mit dem Verkauf von Kohle, Öl und Gas verdienen, haben kein Interesse am Klimaschutz. Als fossiler CEO hat der Chef der Klimakonferenz einen eklatanten Interessenkonflikt. Das wäre in keinem Unternehmen zulässig und ist ein Skandal.
Der neue Klimakommissar muss zeigen, dass er für eine starke europäische Klimapolitik steht. Wir müssen unserer historischen Verantwortung nachkommen: Europa hat sein globales CO₂-Budget schon überschritten. Das heißt, wir müssen mehr Geld für Schäden und Verluste bereitstellen.

Michael Bloss, leading climate politician with the Greens, comments on the EU Parliament's plenary vote on the COP mandate:
We are on a collision course with a wall, and we are not slowing down. This year is likely to be the hottest one ever recorded. We are witnessing another year of devastating floods, fires and droughts from China to Australia, from Canada to Europe.
We cannot afford another climate conference that ends in failure. We need a clear decision to finally break up with coal, oil and gas and to set binding targets for energy efficiency and a threefold increase of renewables by 2030.
In Dubai, the fox is guarding the henhouse. You wouldn’t ask the tobacco industry for the best ways to quit smoking, would you?
Companies that profit from selling coal, oil and gas have no interest in protecting the climate. As a fossil CEO, the head of the climate conference has a glaring conflict of interest. This would be unacceptable in any company and is a scandal.
The new climate commissioner must show that he stands for a strong European climate policy. We have to face our historical responsibility: Europe has already used up its global CO2 budget. This means that we have to pay more for the damages and losses that we have caused.
