Das EU-Parlament hat die Ernennung von Wopke Hoekstra zum Kommissar für Klimaschutz bestätigt.

Maroš Šefčovič wurde ebenfalls als Exekutiv-Vizepräsident für den Green Deal bestätigt.

Die Abstimmung erfolgte geheim.

​​​​Das Parlament hat den neuen Klimakommissar gewählt, weil er sich zu weitreichenden Zugeständnissen in der Klimapolitik verpflichten musste.

Die Konservativen müssen ihre Blockade beim Klimaschutz und der Modernisierung von Europas Wirtschaft aufgeben. Der Green Deal wird jetzt noch ehrgeiziger vorangetrieben.

Die schriftliche Zusage der EU-Kommission, Europa auf den 1,5 Grad-Kurs zu bringen, ist ein riesiger Erfolg. Noch vor einer Woche schien das undenkbar und wurde von der EU-Kommission nicht mal analysiert.

Alle Grünen Forderungen wurden erfüllt. Die 1,5 Grad-Klimapolitik, das Ende der fossilen Subventionen, das Gesetz zur Wiederherstellung der Natur und die Mittel zur Finanzierung des globalen Klimaschutzes waren unser Preis. Die EU-Kommission hat diesen Preis bezahlt, um Hoekstra durchzubringen.

Ich habe keinen Zweifel daran, dass die Zusagen eingehalten werden. Wir haben die Zusicherung von der Spitze der EU-Kommission.

Manfred Weber ist damit gescheitert, den Green Deal zu pausieren. Jetzt müssen er und die Konservative mit Bauchschmerzen den Klimaschutz beklatschen, den sie noch vor dem Sommer mit aller Macht bekämpft haben.

The plenary voted to confirm Wopke Hoekstra as the Commissioner for Climate Action with 279 in favor, 173 against, and 33 abstentions. Maroš Šefčovič was also approved as the Executive Vice-President for the Green Deal with 322 in favor, 158 against, and 37 abstentions. The voting process was conducted through a secret ballot.

The European Parliament elected the new climate commissioner because he had to commit to far-reaching concessions on climate policy.

The Conservatives must abandon their blockade on climate protection and the modernization of Europe's economy. The Green Deal is now being pursued with even greater ambition.

The written commitment from the EU Commission to steer Europe towards the 1.5-degree target is a remarkable achievement. Just a week ago, it seemed unthinkable and was not even being anticipated by the Commission.

Every Green demand has been met - from the 1.5-degree climate goal to ending fossil fuel subsidies, passing laws for nature's revival, and securing funds for global climate defense. The EU Commission cut the check, all to push Hoekstra into office.

I have no doubt that the commitments will be upheld. We've got the EU Commission's word from the very top.

Manfred Weber's attempt to hit pause on the Green Deal has failed. Now, he and the conservatives must put on a brave face and reluctantly cheer for climate protection, they vehemently opposed just before the summer.
